I got my package last week! Woo! (June 15, 2014)

So everything is okay here. Nothing really new has been happening. We haven't had a baptism in a while because none of our investigators go to church! D: Slightly aggravating... But it's okay. I got my package last week! Woo! Elder Cano and I totally destroyed the SPK and the Mangoes within two days... Rather sad actually. But totally diggin the ties! I'm gonna be wearing them to Zone Conference tomorrow. Sometime today though Elder Cano and I will be making dat cheesecake later today. Also Elder Cano loved my picture book, he wouldn't stop looking through it.

Yea I heard from him! We were both wanting him to come here, but I guess he needs to go to NY for some reason. He'll find out why eventually! I'm still trying to figure it out why I'm here, but my teachers at the MTC said they didn't really know why until they were almost done.. So we've got a year to wait.

Elder Cano hasn't snagged my card reader yet so I'll get some pictures in

Elder Archuleta

This is Adobo (I've probably sent pictures of it before, but this is Elder Cano and I's "Secret Ingredient Adobo") and I made thus :D  Elder Cano was so proud.

Our branch had a play on Saturday and it was REDICULOUSLY funny (although it was not in English...so it was kind of hard because they were speaking like extra fast.

Mom:  Love it all!  Send more picturessessesss please!
Elder A. :  but I didn't really take many, we've been busy and I've been forgetting (#mishprobs)
Mom:  No hashtags!  Okay...I am sure you could find something...I hope I hope I hope
Elder A. :  #icanmakehashtagsifiwant  Did you sell Danger?
Mom:  Not yet.  I have no pictures of YOU.
Elder A. :  because I don't take selfies.  That's what Elder Cano does.
Mom:  But you should.  I needs to see yo face.  Well, your grandma especially yells at me for your not sending pictures of you.  I would take a few Elder Cano selfies.
Elder A. :  "yo face". Happy?
Mom:  No, literally, yo face.
Elder A. :  yo face, literally :D
Aha!  Here, I is in this one.  This was us at the play, and the sister is a member of the other branch (it was a combined branch thing) so yea.

Mom:  Stahhhp.  Thank you for the one picture of you and Elder Cano and some random branch person.
Elder A. :  Grandma doesn't yell at me, she just sends me pictures if batman and tells me what's going on in Mona.
Mom:  Well, she yells at me!  You gotsta get better at the pictures.  For reals.
Elder A. :  fine, I will consider taking more pictures of me....
Mom:  I just love you and NEED TO SEE YOUR FACE!
Elder A. :  You've seen it for the past like 19 years....
Mom:  Aww, that makes me sad because I haven't seen it in months!
Elder A. :  Well, it hasn't changed.  Scratch that, it has.  It's just not as chubby.  I am going to weigh myself tomorrow to see how much weight I've lost!  I'm excited!
Mom:  This just happened.
Austin (and Zoe) blowing out candles on his birthday cake!

Elder A. :  Also, I has a request.  So tomorrow is Zone Conference, and it's like rather expensive to go to Bacolod and back, so I might withdraw from my card so Elder Cano and I have money.  Did Austin get a haircut?
Mom:  How much are you going to take out?  Yes he did!  I cut it!
Elder A. :  It looks good!  What is the equivalent of like $15?  So if I take out 1000 php it's $22, and with that we can go to Bacolod, eat, and come back home no problems.
Mom:  Okay, the cost is you taking many pictures of you, your surroundings...like where you walk or ride, you on a tricycle, the area you are in.  Only then will you be allowed to take out money.  Did everything make it in your package?
Elder A. :  Yes, everything made it!  I wasn't expecting like 30 pens and 7 sharpies and 2400 sticky notes (12 pad with 120 notes each) though.  Send the colored pencils though!

Super Awesome Lesson vs. The Chicken

Dear Dad,

100? Dang, that is hot. We go by Celsius here, but I go by how much I'm sweating!

So Jack finished Baseball and Jake's about to start football? Any pictures of Jack playing? I want pictures of both of them!

Austin's starting at Sierra? I'll ask him about that in a bit, and about his car apparently too. I guess if he needs it you could sell it to him. So much for keeping the speakers and radio out of Danger... He'll probably kill them.

I saw the pictures of the playhouse, It looks nice! What'ts the size? It looks like roughly 8x8.

Scout camp! I actually kind of miss those. Especially when I was junior staff that one year. Only one hour? That'll be good for them. I think we've driven past there going to Reno, right?

You started using Preach My Gospel? Good, It'll be a great start for the young men. I'm still trying ot get the language completely down. I get it for the most part, but every now and then there are still things I don't get. But I know I'm getting good at the language when It's easier for me to explain something to Elder Cano in Ilonggo instead of English. All the foreign missionaries actually kind of lose English, and I just started... So it'll be fun coming home!

No, Not yet. I'm thinking I'll get it when I go to Zone Conference.
No transfers, transfer day is July 2.
No new food, just the same old stuff.

Missionary experiences? Yea, it happened yesterday actually. Elder Cano and I were teaching one of our investigators and we were outside because it was less hot there. We were teaching a super awesome lesson, and we were so focused on what we were doing that we didn't realize that the chicken that was right above us had totally pooped on us. It was extremely gross. I guess that counts as the funny thing too.

Thanks for the update. I havent checked my account since last week, and its annoying because it shows my balance in pisos (i found out its spelled with an "i" not "e") so I have to do some math to figure out what it is in american money. But our supporet increased so I think we should be good for now. We're kind of low, but we should have enough to make it till next week (support comes in on the 1st and 16th of every month)

That's about all I have, I gotta go write mom now.

Elder Archuleta

Dear Mom,

The school schedule here is weird. School ended like when I got here, and it just started back up like last week. I miss little Zoe, It'll be weird because when I get home she can actually like.. talk and stuffs. Weird. Literally nothing new. We've just been working with our investigators like crazy so we can get them baptized! Thats about it. I told my fun thing for the week to dad :D There aren't really any pictures from this week, Maybe one or two.

Domenick says he might be getting his papers this week. I was laughing so hard when I saw that. But the one random old dude was totally creepy though. He was photobombing.

I'll try to look for some pictrures.. Elder Cano likes to grab my card reader and sd card before I do... So we're waiting on him!

Other than that, Nothing else to say really. I got laundry and shopping for today, thats about it. I'll try to take more pictures.

Love,
Me

Email conversation while waiting for pictures: (Bear with us...we love to re-read EVERYTHING he has to tell us.)

Elder Archuleta:
Still waiting on Elder Cano.  What time is it?  I left my watch at home.  I am getting a tan line from it.
Mom:
It's 8:25 pm here.
Elder Archuleta:
Oh!  I thought it was 11 or 12.  The computer here is wrong.  It says it's almost 5.
Mom:
Nope!  It's still light outside and it's still hot...92* or 33*C.
Elder Archuleta:
It gets dark here at like six.  Then again when I wake up it's already light outside.
Mom:
That's too early to get dark!  I bet that's hard to get used to.
Elder Archuleta:
Someone borrowed my card reader...I think it was Elder Morgan.
It's actually not that bad.
Mom:
What???  Take some pictures of the Internet cafe you are in then...and send it to me ... TODAY!
Elder A:
It's not a cafe..it's literally a room with computers in it.
Mom:
But...it's somewhere I will never be so send me a picture of it...and all the Elders you are with!
Elder A:
Well you never know...the other week one of the departing elders had his parents come pick him up.
Mom:
I saw pictures of that!  It was Elder Wilstead, right?
Elder A:
Yep.  He was one of the AP's when I got here.  He was cool.
Mom:
Yeah, so maybe we will come pick you up.  It will depend on a lot of things.
Elder A:
It would be cool.  I could kind of show you around and stuff, so yea.
Mom:
It would be really cool.  We would love to be able to.  Too far away to think about now.
Elder A:
Yea.  I'm not even at my 6 month mark, let alone going home.
It still seems like just yesterday you guys were dropping me off.  Elder Cano likes to make fun of me for how long I have (since he goes home in September) but it doesn't bother me because the time already goes by super fast for me.
Like right now....he's making fun of me now.
Mom:
Almost five months gone.  It makes me so proud.  Please....take lots of pictures.  Even like right now!
I feel that way too.  Like my baby just left.  Sniff sniff.  I just love talking about you being on a mission.
Hahahahaha!  He is the best first companion for you!
Elder A:
Hahaha.  I'm almost 20 (eww! I'm almost 20)...I'm not a baby.
Mom:
Nooooooo!!!!!  Shhhhh...we don't talk about numbers.  You are my baby boy...with the cute fuzzy hair.  Always with one sock ...and crying...like ALL THE TIME!!!  I love you so much.
Elder A:
I've stopped crying.  But the one sock thing still happens occasionally and my hair is like forever like that, even if I had a silver hair the other day.
PS...I'm almost 20.
Also, I like to look at my blog and see what you do to it, and I saw the spork picture.  It says; This is Kevin.  He is a spork.  This is the hammer of Thor, but it has the power to shoot bacon at peeps.
Mom:
You said you would translate...you didn't, so I guessed.  I will make the correction.
Elder A:
Cool. I gotta go, Peace off! *toby boop*

PICTURES!!

A member made this for us.

Dinner the other day (ill explain next week im almost out of time)

Angels hamburgers... for 24 pisos you get 2 and they are BOMB.

This week I'll work on taking more pictures. Also, I was thinking of having you send me a flash drive so I could download talks and hymns to listen to!

I'm just a normal missionary now!!

Dear mom,

Yesterday was fast sunday for us. Jake and Jack sound pretty much the same, and yay sam is still kicking! :D

Davis will be a great missionary. As long as he follows the rules. The 2 basic things that missionaries need to do to be AWESOME is to just follow the rules and the Spirit. Works ALL THE TIME. :D She leaves mid July? We might be coming home at the same time... Weird. :D

Woo! Thanks! I got your email from last week, hopefully you sent normal sharpies. If not, I'll manage! I will let you know when it happens! :D

We actually get all the church magazines so... I think I read that. Yea, now that I've thought about it I did read it. It's cool though. But the thing is they really only take pictures of like the Manila Mission and the Tacloban Mission. We learned through President Lopez that we are the top mission here in the Philippines (He even showed us the statistics) and one of the Top missions in the world. But SHHHH it's supposed to be a secret. :D

They're just being themselves. We're really working extra hard because we need baptisms this month or President will "scold" us for not upholding the mission vision! There was a baptism last week for the sisters of the other district, and we attended that. Yesterday Elder Cano and I interviewed a candidate for this Saturday (which will be Elder Martinez' FIRST). It was pretty cool. I just sat there and looked super gwapo (handsome). :D No transfers in our district but in other districts yes. I'm not sure who though. We're still figuring who's here and who isn't. This Wednesday is zone training so I'll get a zone picture. Getting people to come to church... That is like our biggest problem. To put it in perspective, It's like trying to get people from Loomis to come to church in Lincoln. Completely and totally possible, but they don't want to. Partially because they don't have plete (fair for the tricycles). But we're going to try to work with members that live closer to our investigators to help with that. :D

Yes and I wrote Elder Colley too! They're both doing great! Elder Nielsen has like 20 something baptisms (granted he's over halfway and I'm not even at 1/4) and Elder Colley has I think 7. Area's are different! :D

Pictures... Yea. I've been trying to take more pictures but... 1. All 3 of my batteries were dead (1 still is currently) 2. We've actually been taking videos... And Stupid email limit is 15mb (which is really annoying because most of my pictures are like 7.8mb... really annoying..) 3. Haven't had time. We're working in like super-duper overdrive this transfer. But I think I have a picture or two? I'll check. :D

Mmmmm sisig. I will make it for you guys when I come home. It is like SOOO good. And yes mom, Eggplants are purple. Just not after you cook them and cover them with egg, tomatoes, and like 4 other veggies that Elder Cano refuses to tell me in English. (granted he might not know it.. I do teach him english.)

Well it's pday today and we've got a busy day. We finally got the increased support (which was AWESOME!) And so after this we're going shopping, then getting Elder Cano a haircut (his is like really long up top, mine is still short. My hair is like basically not growing because its growing so slowly), then cleaning and doing laundry! Although we're going to cheat and borrow our neighbors washing machine (so laundry takes like 15 minutes, not an hour.) :D

Elder Archuleta :D

ps: :D

A few emails back and forth while waiting for Elder Cano to be done with his transferring of pictures from Elder Archuleta's SD card.
From Mom:

Sam kicking it by Dad working at the table.

I sent normal ones, but some are colored and I sent fine tipped ones too.  If you need or want more, I will send some in my next package.

From Elder Archuleta:

He looks not poofy and slightly angry... I miss him so much. All the dogs here are weird. They're like.. I don't know how to describe it. I'll take a picture this week.

Colored ones?! Sweet! I would like some colored pencils. We've been teaching a lot of kids recently and they all like pictures. Just like 2 boxes would be perfect. I've tried looking but like all they have are "crayons". They look kind of sketchy so I don't trust them. Oh and a pencil sharpener too (duh).

Elder Cano still has my sd card. I'll try to get some pictures to you foolz.

Also, I forgot. I'M FINISHED WITH TRAINING!!!! I'm just a normal missionary now! :D

Finallypictures for you foolz back home!!!

BANANA KETCHUP!!!

This is what I do on Sundays when I get bored. I'll translate it in a second.  (He never did, although we can assume his name is Kevin, he is Thor, has a hammer and loves bacon.😃)

This is the baptism we attended. Elder Cano was they one who baptized (they requested him). The sister standing next to me got mad at me for being like over a foot taller than her so I tried to be short...

ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA.
For starters, I totally did just write the alphabet backwards.

So like I've said, Elder Cano likes to take selfies. I photobombed him on this one (The sunglasses belong to a member)

Note I am not wearing a tie.

Dear Dad,

Fathers and sons already?  That was fast.  Of course Davis would win, he can put away food like nothing!  Where did President Eller serve?

I was looking through the pictures, what happened to Robby?  Kid looks twice as big now.  Shaffer and Gibby still look the same.  Who's in the first picture?  Is it Jake and Jack?

No transfers for us, and nothing interesting yet.  But we will keep working hard!  Anything fun?  We interviewed some one for baptism yesterday, that was pretty cool.  Elder Cano held the interview and I just sat there (just because we can't be separated).

Just the Deacons?  I know the Priests talk about it every now and then, but they should all be studying it.  Especially Davis and Alyssa.

We have zone conference this month supposedly, so I will be taking pictures of that!

Love,
Elder Archuleta

P.S.  Some good chapters in Preach My Gospel to focus on would be chapters 10, 8, 6, 5, and 4. All of them are good, but those would probably apply the most to the YM.

From Dad, (a few emails back and forth)

President Eller served in Milan, Italy.

That is Bringham and Gibby sleeping in the truck at fathers and sons, they fell asleep.  Robby has grown quite a bit and is the biggest youth we have.  The teachers and priests finally separate since they have enough teachers in class and Shaffer Jon's the teachers in two weeks.

I will make sure they study Preach My Gospel and start preparing now.  Davis is getting excited to finally leave to Peru MTC.  I think mom told you Alyssa was called to the Salt Lake City Temple Square mission.

From Elder Archuleta:

Oh that's right.  Just to make sure, not Camden's dad, right?  The bald guy?  (Sorry President Eller!)

Yea Robby is HUGE.  Then again I'm one of the big people here.  And one of the tallest too.  Oh. Okay, it does look like Briggy.  Who's in the Priest Quorum now?

That's awesome. Yea, mom told me.

From Dad:

Yes the bald one, he is Camden's uncle.  He came over with Bro. D to visit when you got your call.

Robby is big, but still very picky food eater.  We are all hoping he gets a mission call out of the country where they don't have ketchup.

The Priest Quorum is: Robby, Isaac, Randy, Andrew, the same guys when you left.  They have not added anyone new.  We have had quite a few families move into the ward lately, but they only had Deacon and primary age kids.  We are up to 10 Deacons now.  We have Boy Scout camp in two weeks.  We are going to Camp Marin Sierra this year.  It is off I-80 near Yuba Gap, just before Cisco Grove off ramp (exit to go to Camp Cole).

That is good you and Elder Cano are still together.  I am sure transfers are coming soon.  Good to hear your support money got raised.

Make sure you keep up on pictures.  It will be good for you years later to look back on.  Brother Merrill said he wishes he took more to remember things.

From Elder Archuleta:

Right, I knew they were related some how.  After a mission you learn to not be a picky eater.  But for the Ketchup... I think you can find that anywhere.  But here the ketchup is made with bananas, not tomatoes, so it's kind of sweet.  Do they have banana ketchup back home?

From Dad:

No banana ketchup here.  That would taste different.  How are your shoes holding up?

From Elder Archuleta:

Dang.  It's really good.
It tastes pretty much the same, just sweet.  I have a picture for you guys for the shoes!  They are still good though.

So this is what they look like after one day of work.  Just one day.  I refuse to shine them everyday, so I polish them at least once a week.  (Usually today.) I switch them every other week.

From Dad:

It does look like they are holding up nicely.  The polish job is looking good on them and help them last longer and keep them looking good.  They were worth the money.  Mom and I researched and most missionaries in your climate said the Ecco's were the most durable.

From Elder Archuleta:

Yea, and they should last me well after my mission too apparently.  There's an Elder here who has the same shoes as me (or same brand) and he's almost done and they still look new.  They're pretty good. They're broken in so they're comfortable, except they're still new enough that they squeak when I walk around in the church building.
